Longevity travel rises as seniors seek adventurous global trips

A growing trend known as ‘longevity travel’ is transforming the tourism industry as seniors over the age of 65 seek increasingly adventurous and enriching experiences. In Italy, approximately one in two seniors travels at least once a year, accounting for roughly 14% of all tourist movements.

This demographic is characterized by high levels of activity and health, often utilizing savings and pensions to pursue long-held travel dreams. While some prefer self-organized trips to nearby locations, many opt for organized group tours for complex international destinations to navigate language barriers and bureaucratic challenges. Popular destinations include Japan, due to the weak yen, South Korea, which is highly sought after for its skincare expertise, Iceland, and Sri Lanka.

Travel agencies are adapting to this shift by offering tailored packages that combine cultural activities, wellness, and social interaction, catering to those seeking companionship or specialized guidance.
