Longevity trends drive new discussions on midlife transitions and mature motherhood

As global life expectancy increases, new sociological and psychological concepts are emerging to describe the experiences of aging adults. The term ‘midelescence’ is being used to describe a transition period for individuals between the ages of 50 and 70. This stage is characterized by questioning identity, work, relationships, and future projects, serving as a period of reinvention rather than a traditional midlife crisis.

Parallel discussions are occurring regarding mature motherhood. Psychologists note that women choosing to become mothers after age 40 often approach the decision with high levels of consciousness and professional stability. However, this demographic may face unique psychological challenges, including intense self-expectation and a perceived loss of control as they balance established professional identities with the demands of newborn care.
