Long‑term urban planning debated in Paulista, Brazil, ahead of 2035 centennial

On Thursday, August 30, a lecture by architect and urbanist Francisco Cunha was held at the Uninassau Paulista auditorium as part of the 21st anniversary of the Movimento Pró‑Museu. The event, organized by the Paulista Centenária platform, focused on long‑term urban planning for the city of Paulista, which will celebrate its centennial in 2035.

Cunha emphasized the role of strategic planning in public policy and cited examples such as the Recife 500 Anos project, the Recife Cidade Parque initiative, and efforts to protect historic baobab trees. The discussion was moderated by consultant Fernando Cunha and attended by cultural, historical and municipal officials, including Ricardo Andrade (coordinator of Paulista Centenária and president of the Instituto Histórico do Paulista), José Ricardo (coordinator of Movimento Pró‑Museu), Padre Renato Maia, and Raimundo Lopes, the city’s secretary of Economic Development. The meeting is one of a series of debates intended to stimulate reflection on medium‑ and long‑term development as the city prepares for its 2035 centennial.
