Lopik water battle draws 100 youths in community police outreach

The municipality of Lopik organized a large‑scale water fight on 30 July at the Hoefsmid playground, involving more than 100 teenagers. The event was co‑hosted by local police, BOAs and fire‑service volunteers, with the child mayor Hannah firing the opening water stream. Participants used water pistols and fire‑hose jets while spectators watched from a designated dry zone.

The initiative aimed to foster positive, low‑threshold contact between young people and law‑enforcement officials, encouraging trust and making authorities appear approachable. Organisers said the successful first edition would help youths feel more comfortable seeking help or reporting concerns in the future.
