Starting October 21, 2026, Rijkswaterstaat will implement weight restrictions on the Markerwaarddijk (N307) between Enkhuizen and Lelystad. Heavy vehicles exceeding 15 tons or an axle load of 7.3 tons are prohibited from using the route due to cracks discovered in the steel structures of the movable bridges near the Houtribsluizen.

Transport and Logistiek Nederland (TLN) has warned that the measure will significantly impact transport companies in the northern Netherlands, leading to increased travel times, higher fuel costs, and additional mileage as drivers are forced to detour via the A6, A7, or the Afsluitdijk. Some industry experts suggest the restrictions could last for years.

Logistics operators have noted that these increased operational costs may eventually be passed down through the supply chain to consumers. While Rijkswaterstaat maintains the measure is essential for safety and to prevent further structural deterioration, businesses are calling for more clarity regarding potential repair timelines.
