Lord Ganesha: Significance of his 108 sacred names and Vighnaharta title

Lord Ganesha is recognized in Hindu tradition by 108 sacred names, each representing specific divine qualities, appearances, or roles. These names, such as Gajanan, Ekdant, and Vinayak, serve as focal points for devotees during prayer to connect with attributes like wisdom, compassion, and the removal of barriers.

One of his most prominent titles is Vighnaharta, which translates to the ‘remover of obstacles.’ According to legend, Ganesha earned this distinction through a test of wisdom involving his brother, Kartikeya. Because of this role, devotees frequently invoke Ganesha at the start of new endeavors, including weddings, business ventures, and religious ceremonies, to seek blessings and ensure a clear path forward.
