Lord of Mysteries MMORPG launches in China with high popularity

The MMORPGLord of Mysteries’, an officially licensed adaptation of the popular web novel by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving, has launched its open beta in China. Developed by Spark Nexa under Kuaishou’s ‘Tanzhi Universe’ brand, the game is built using Unreal Engine 5 and features a Victorian-era occult setting.

Prior to the August 21 launch, the title saw significant popularity, ranking number one on the China App Store, Bilibili, and TapTap charts. Pre-registrations on TapTap exceeded 2.1 million. Due to high demand, developers expanded server capacity by adding new servers named ‘Abyss’ and ‘Death’.

The project reportedly reached a total cost of 1.2 billion RMB, including promotion. The game offers cross-platform play across PC, Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS, allowing players to sync progress across devices. It utilizes a progression system based on the novel’s 22 pathways and 220 sequences.
