Lord of the Rings franchise announces 2027 Gollum film as fans revisit Legolas’s unique traits

Peter Jackson’s Middle‑earth movies continue to generate discussion. A recent commentary highlights that the films rarely show an elven ability: Legolas can rest without fully sleeping, a trait described in Tolkien’s works but barely depicted on screen.

At the same time, the franchise’s next live‑action project has been confirmed. “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” is scheduled to open in Germany on 16 December 2027, positioning the film between the events of The Hobbit and the original trilogy. The plot will follow Gollum’s movements after he loses the Ring to Bilbo, with new characters and settings introduced. Production details, cast and crew remain under wraps, but the announcement marks the first of two planned new Tolkien‑based films.
