Lollapalooza: Lorde halts set as fans pass out in heat
The Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago faced severe weather disruptions. Heavy rain delayed gate opening on Saturday, prompting organizers to postpone entry by several hours.
During the opening night, headliner Lorde paused her performance multiple times after several concertgoers near the front lost consciousness due to extreme heat, with temperatures reaching around 90 °F (32 °C). She called for security and medical staff, ensured assistance, and then resumed the set. Lorde remarked, “You look hot from up here,” referencing the conditions.
The incident echoed a 2017 rain‑induced evacuation that cut short Lorde’s previous appearance. Other acts were also affected: rapper Lil Uzi Vert’s Friday set was postponed because of the weather, while The Smashing Pumpkins and other headliners performed as scheduled. Charli XCX joined Lorde on stage for a duet of “Girl, So Confusing.”
