L’Oreal reports weight loss drugs are impacting beauty sales

L’Oreal has identified the rise of GLP-1 weight loss drugs, such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro, as a significant phenomenon affecting beauty and skincare consumption. CEO Nicolas Hieronimus noted that while the beauty market remains resilient, the rapid weight loss associated with these medications is influencing consumer needs.

To address side effects like facial hollowing and skin sagging—often referred to as ‘Ozempic face’—L’Oreal is developing products specifically designed to complement the use of these medicines. Brands such as SkinCeuticals and Kiehl’s are focusing on concerns regarding skin firmness, hydration, and texture. Additionally, the company has expanded its presence in the clinical aesthetic space by increasing its stake in the dermatology firm Galderma to 20%.

Despite these shifting consumption patterns, L’Oreal reported that sales for the three months ending in September rose by 7.7%, exceeding analyst expectations.
