Loredana Capone addresses AI ethics and labor impact
During the Festa dell'Unità in Martina Franca, Loredana Capone, Vice President of the Democratic Party (PD), addressed the ethical implications of artificial intelligence and its impact on society and labor.
Capone argued that technology itself is not the issue, but rather the objectives and the individuals governing its use. She emphasized that institutions, particularly regional governments, have a responsibility to provide digital literacy and training to prevent citizens from being left behind by technological shifts.
Addressing recent labor concerns, Capone criticized the use of algorithms driven solely by profit, specifically referencing 2,500 workers facing layoffs. She stated that using an algorithm to facilitate dismissals is a choice rather than an inevitability. Furthermore, she warned against the misuse of AI for political manipulation, such as the creation of deepfakes, and called for the protection of critical thinking and public debate.
