Lorena Wiebes triumphs at Copenhagen Sprint after Giro bike‑weight scandal

Dutch sprinter Lorena Wiebes, the 2025 national champion for SD Worx‑Protime, returned to competition two weeks after being disqualified from the Giro d'Italia Donne because her bike was found under the minimum weight limit. The team questioned the weighing procedures and the bike supplier called the ruling "arbitrary" and "discriminatory".

Wiebes entered the Copenhagen Sprint in Denmark and dominated the final kilometre, winning the women's one‑day race for the second consecutive year. She beat fellow Dutch rider Charlotte Kool and Norway’s Nienke Veenhoven, securing her 127th career victory. "I’m very happy with this win; the team worked extremely hard and it gave me extra motivation after the disappointment of last week," Wiebes said after the finish.

The victory marked a swift comeback for the rider, who had travelled back to the Netherlands to rest before training again in Italy and then heading to Denmark. The race featured a late‑stage breakaway and several crashes, but Wiebes remained in control and launched a decisive sprint in the final 200 metres.
