Lorena Wiebes withdraws from Track Cycling World Championships
Dutch cyclist Lorena Wiebes has ended her participation in the Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai following a heavy crash during the scratch race of the omnium. Wiebes reported significant pain in her ribs, shoulder, and knees, describing the sensation as if a “bowling ball was thrown against my ribs.”
While the athlete suffered open wounds on her knees and intense pain, initial assessments indicate there are no broken bones. Wiebes attributed the crash to a collision involving other riders, noting that she appeared to be maintaining her line before being struck. Despite the setback, she expressed satisfaction with her previous performances in the team pursuit and the scratch race.
