Lorenz implements autonomous electric vehicles for factory logistics
Snack manufacturer Lorenz has launched a five-year logistics project at its facility in Neunburg vorm Wald, Germany, to introduce autonomous, fully electric transport vehicles. In collaboration with the Swedish technology company Einride, the project utilizes four cabless autonomous electric vehicles to move finished goods, raw materials, and empty pallets between production areas and the central warehouse.
The vehicles are expected to transport up to 1,200 pallets daily, with each trip carrying 15 pallets and lasting between 30 and 45 minutes. Operations are coordinated via Einride’s Saga software platform, which automates and synchronizes transport processes. To ensure safety and continuity, the autonomous operations are monitored by both remote and local operators, and two conventional electric trucks are maintained as reserves.
This initiative is part of Lorenz’s broader logistics strategy to integrate future-oriented technology while reducing CO2 emissions within its internal transport processes. Under the transport agreement, the vehicles remain the property of Einride, which also manages their operation and control.
