Lorenzo Rojas‑Martinez Charged for Drone Violation at Atlanta FIFA Fan Festival

Lorenzo Rojas‑Martinez, a 37‑year‑old Mexican national who has been removed from the United States twice, was arrested after operating an unmanned drone in a temporary flight‑restricted zone near Centennial Olympic Park during the 2026 FIFA Fan Festival in Atlanta on June 12. Federal agents from the FBI’s Counter‑UAV Task Force observed him recording video from a nearby parking area, identified him as unlawfully present, and took him into custody. He was transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement the following day.

Prosecutors have filed two federal counts: one for violating the restricted airspace established by the FAA’s “No Drone Zones” around World Cup venues, and another for illegal re‑entry after prior removals. The charges carry potential fines of up to $100,000, seizure of the drone, and criminal penalties. Rojas‑Martinez’s prior record includes drug trafficking and other offenses.
