Lorenzo Sonego defeats Pierre-Hugues Herbert at ATP Winston-Salem

Lorenzo Sonego advanced to the second round of the ATP 250 tournament in Winston-Salem after defeating Pierre-Hugues Herbert in three sets. The match lasted approximately two hours and forty minutes, ending with a score of 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3.

Sonego, the 2024 tournament champion, faced a difficult start against the French lucky loser, who is currently ranked 288th in the world. After winning a tight first-set tiebreak, Sonego dropped the second set following a decisive break by Herbert. However, Sonego regained momentum in the third set, securing two breaks to close out the match.

Sonego's performance included 10 aces and 33 winners. He is scheduled to face the ninth seed and 2022 Winston-Salem champion, Adrian Mannarino, in the next round.
