Loreto prepares federal offices as high-altitude lizard discovered in Arequipa

In Loreto, Baja California Sur, permanent offices for the Tax Administration Service (SAT) and the National Electoral Institute (INE) are nearing completion. Mayor Paz Ochoa Amador reported that the SAT module, located near the Community General Hospital, is expected to begin operations by late August. Simultaneously, municipal workers are rehabilitating a space for a permanent INE module.

In Arequipa, Peru, scientists have identified the Liolaemus misti, a lizard species that holds the record for living at the highest altitude in the world. Found in the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve, the reptile inhabits elevations between 4,135 and 5,400 meters above sea level. The species was formally described in the journal Salamandra following research conducted by teams from the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa and various international institutions.
