Loreto Rodriguez wins YJA Young Journalist of the Year

Loreto Rodriguez has been named the Yachting Journalists’ Association (YJA) Young Journalist of the Year for 2026. The award, sponsored by Henri-Lloyd, was announced on September 18 at the Southampton International Boat Show.

The award recognizes emerging talent in marine media for journalists aged 30 and under. Entries are evaluated based on written and visual content, including photography and video, covering marine journalism within the UK and at international events. Rodriguez, who has written for Practical Boat Owner, credited the YJA mentoring scheme for her development.

YJA Chair Katy Stickland stated that the award is central to the association’s commitment to encouraging the next generation of marine journalists as news consumption and storytelling methods evolve. The 2026 shortlist also included finalists Amelie Ballantyne and Viola Devoti.
