Loris Karius revitalizes career with standout Bundesliga performances at Schalke
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has experienced a significant career resurgence after joining Schalke 04 in January 2025. Karius revealed that he had been close to retiring from professional football in late 2024 after failing to receive any suitable offers following his departure from Newcastle.
Since joining Schalke, Karius has become a standout performer in the Bundesliga. He currently leads the league in total saves with 23, surpassing Moritz Nicolas of Borussia Mönchengladbach. He has also been noted for preventing the highest number of expected goals (xG) in the league.
A highlight of his recent form was a 0-0 draw against Bayern Munich, where his performance earned him the player of the match title with 68 percent of the vote. His contributions were instrumental in Schalke's return to the top flight after a three-year absence. Despite his domestic success, a call-up to the German national team remains uncertain.
