Lorne Doerkson pledges to cut PST on Canadian alcohol
BC Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson has pledged to temporarily remove the 10 per cent Provincial Sales Tax (PST) on Canadian-produced wine, beer, and spirits. The proposal, announced during a campaign stop in Langley, aims to support the domestic alcohol industry amid an ongoing 18-month trade conflict with the United States.
Doerkson stated that while the tax removal would result in provincial budget losses, the move is necessary to protect approximately 20,000 jobs at risk within the sector. He also committed to keeping American liquor off British Columbia shelves until the trade dispute is resolved. The announcement comes as the BC Conservatives lead the NDP in recent polling ahead of the October 24 provincial election.
