Lorüns bypass construction delayed until at least 2031
Construction of the Lorüns bypass in the Bludenz district of Vorarlberg is not expected to begin until approximately 2031. Although the state government reached a fundamental agreement with the Montafon region and local municipalities in July 2025, a formal principle decision has yet to be issued.
The proposed “small solution” involves rerouting the Montafonerstraße (L188) near the village between the railway line and the Ill river. This plan would require shifting the railway tracks closer to the settlement, though it does not include a double-track expansion.
State Councilor Christof Bitschi indicated that the delay is due to budget consolidation and the prioritization of other infrastructure projects. Specifically, the bypass is slated to begin only after the completion of the Feldkirch city tunnel, which is scheduled for 2030. Local Mayor Andreas Batlogg expressed concern over the lack of progress in planning, noting that the community has been waiting for developments since the project was co-developed in 2021.
