Los Alcarrizos plans formal municipal cemetery to replace improvised site

The Mayor of Los Alcarrizos, Junior Santos, has announced plans to construct a formal municipal cemetery on 341,000 square meters of land provided by the government through Bienes Nacionales. The project aims to replace an improvised burial ground where more than 7,000 people have been interred over the last eight years.

The proposed site will be developed as a park cemetery featuring pedestrian and vehicular paths, landscaped areas, and an organized layout of graves to prevent further unregulated growth. To initiate the first stage of construction, the Mayor has requested an investment of 181 million pesos from President Luis Abinader.

A significant challenge of the project involves managing the existing informal graves. Santos confirmed that some burials will require legal exhumation and relocation to accommodate the new organized quadrants and defined spaces.
