Regional water and sanitation infrastructure projects underway in Caribbean and South America

Various regional authorities in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Cuba are implementing infrastructure and environmental projects to improve water and sanitation services.

In the Dominican Republic, the Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (Caasd) has begun a 1.16 billion peso project to sanitize eight ravines in Los Alcarrizos, benefiting over 72,000 residents. Additionally, the Puerto Plata City Council and INDRHI are constructing gabion walls in Los Mameyes to prevent flooding. In San Francisco de Macorís, institutions conducted a reforestation campaign along the Jaya River to protect water sources.

In Venezuela, Hidroven and the Ministry of Water have deployed technical teams to clean sewerage networks in the Monagas state, specifically in the Bolívar and Ezequiel Zamora municipalities, benefiting over 1,300 families. Efforts also included reactivating a deep well in Alto de Barbarito.

In Cuba, sanitation brigades in Cauto Cristo are working to clear clogged drains and sewage networks to mitigate flooding and improve hygiene in response to increased population density.
