Los Angeles 2028 Olympics projected to drive $40.6 billion in economic activity
A study by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) estimates that the preparation and hosting of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games could generate between $20.5 billion and $40.6 billion in economic production for the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
The analysis, commissioned by the LA28 organizing committee, suggests the event could support between 126,000 and 224,000 jobs. Additionally, the Games are projected to produce between $5.1 billion and $5.9 billion in tax revenue for federal, state, and local governments.
The research covers five metropolitan counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura. The variation in economic estimates stems from two different methodologies: one focusing on new external spending entering the region, and another measuring broader economic activity through inter-sectoral relationships.
