Los Angeles Angels restructure front office under John Mozeliak

The Los Angeles Angels are undergoing a significant restructuring of their baseball operations department under John Mozeliak. Following the earlier dismissal of general manager Perry Minasian, Mozeliak has implemented several changes to align the team’s approach to player acquisitions.

Recent front office moves include the promotion of Matt Swanson and Michael Lord to assistant general manager positions. Swanson will oversee amateur and professional scouting, while Lord will manage research and development. The team now operates with four assistant general managers, including David Haynes and Joey Prebynski, who handle MLB roster and player development respectively.

Mozeliak has also shifted the team’s draft strategy from selecting players ‘closest to the majors’ to focusing on the ‘best available’ talent. These organizational changes follow a period of roster trades and coaching staff dismissals aimed at addressing a depleted minor league system. Despite these efforts, the team faces challenges regarding offensive consistency and long-term competitive stability.
