Los Angeles Chargers adjust Justin Herbert's stance under OC Mike McDaniel

Mike McDaniel was hired as the Los Angeles Chargers' offensive coordinator and is reshaping the offense around quarterback Justin Herbert. He has changed Herbert's shotgun alignment, having the right‑handed quarterback line up with his left foot forward – a technique McDaniel previously used with quarterbacks in Washington, Atlanta and Miami. McDaniel told reporters, “It wasn’t broke. This is a really good player.”

During a June minicamp, Herbert showcased the new footwork, delivering a 15‑yard pass to Tre Harris and a precise throw to Quentin Johnston that McDaniel called “a lot of positive consequences.” The drills emphasized a quicker release and more space for eligible receivers, with teammates such as Trey Lance also participating. The adjustments are expected to give the Chargers a faster, more deceptive offense as they head toward training camp.
