Los Angeles Chargers adjust offense under new coordinator Mike McDaniel
The Los Angeles Chargers are adjusting their offensive structure for the 2026 season following the appointment of Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator. New tight end David Njoku, who joined the team on a one-year, $3 million deal after a decade with the Cleveland Browns, has praised McDaniel’s intelligence and unique approach to playcalling.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh also expressed approval of Njoku, noting his strength and fluidity during offseason activities.
Regarding the backfield, McDaniel indicated that running backs Kimani Vidal and Keaton Mitchell will play significant roles in the offense. While Omarion Hampton is expected to remain a lead back, McDaniel’s comments suggest he may share more touches with Vidal and Mitchell than previously anticipated. McDaniel noted that Hampton has shown intense focus and urgency during training camp.
