Los Angeles Chargers sign QB Jake Browning to practice squad

The Los Angeles Chargers have signed veteran quarterback Jake Browning to their practice squad. The move provides depth to a roster currently struggling with a 0-5 start to the season and significant injuries at the position.

Browning, 30, joins the team following the placement of Trey Lance on injured reserve due to a groin injury. Lance is expected to miss at least four games, including Week 5. Currently, the Chargers' active 53-man roster includes starter Justin Herbert and DJ Uiagalelei.

Browning previously played for the Minnesota Vikings and the Cincinnati Bengals, where he notably filled in for Joe Burrow during the 2023 season. His career includes 17 NFL appearances and 10 starts. The signing comes amid discussions regarding the team's offensive struggles and the performance of Justin Herbert.
