Los Angeles Council moves to block Lineage Logistics warehouse rebuild

The Los Angeles City Council has taken significant steps to address the aftermath of a fire at a Lineage Logistics cold-storage warehouse in Boyle Heights. A Planning and Land Use Management Committee unanimously recommended withholding reconstruction permits for the facility at 1400 S. Los Palos St., citing the company’s failure to meet deadlines for removing food waste. Councilwoman Ysabel Jurado, representing the 14th District, opposed the rebuilding applications until a full investigation into the fire's cause is completed and community impacts are addressed.

In addition to blocking reconstruction, the committee proposed increasing fines for noncompliance, ranging from $25,000 to $1 million. The City Council also approved five motions to manage the local environmental and social crisis. These include a 60-day period of prioritized sanitation services—such as street sweeping and dead animal removal—and investigations into water quality regarding stormwater runoff from the June fire.

Further actions include prioritizing tenant complaint investigations in Boyle Heights and working to establish an Environmental Justice and Advocacy Advisory Commission to guide the mayor and council on equity and sustainability issues.
