Los Angeles Councilman Curren Price Faces Trial After Judge Rejects Dismissal Bid
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler denied a defense motion to dismiss the public‑corruption case against City Councilman Curren Price. The judge said there is sufficient circumstantial evidence to move the case forward and set a status conference for October 16.
Price, 75, is charged with a dozen felony counts, including grand theft by embezzlement of public funds, conflict‑of‑interest violations and perjury. Prosecutors allege he misused public money for his wife’s business, obtained medical benefits illegally, and failed to disclose financial interests or recuse himself on related votes. The councilman’s attorneys maintain the allegations lack merit. A prior judge, Shelly Torrealba, also rejected a dismissal request in January after a six‑day preliminary hearing.
