Los Angeles Councilwoman Ysabel Jurado proposes $10 million fire recovery plan for Boyle Heights
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Ysabel Jurado unveiled a seven‑motion legislative package, the Fire Recovery and Environmental Justice Package, to aid Boyle Heights residents still suffering after the Lineage Logistics warehouse fire that occurred seven weeks earlier. The package seeks up to $10 million from the city’s unappropriated balance for immediate relief from odors and vermin, dedicated casework for affected households and businesses, accelerated state‑supported cleanup, legal safeguards against a “business‑as‑usual” rebuild, public release of final water‑quality results and the creation of a permanent Environmental Justice and Advocacy Advisory Commission.
Jurado said, “For nearly seven weeks, families have lived with smoke and ash, odor, flies and pests, disruption and uncertainty,” adding that residents “did not cause this disaster, but were forced to suffer its consequences.” She also urged Governor Gavin Newsom to deploy additional resources and expressed hope that he would visit the neighborhood. Lineage Logistics reported that about 80 % of the food waste has been removed and aims to complete bulk waste removal within the next week.
The motions include higher fines for Lineage Logistics and expanded pest‑vector mitigation efforts by city departments.
