Los Angeles County Board approves motion to address deputy gangs

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Holly Mitchell to address the issue of deputy gangs within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The motion calls for county staff to identify and catalogue alleged deputy gangs.

Despite the unanimous vote, board members voted to delay consideration of the actual proposed directives until the county CEO completes an initial report. The board has directed staff to review the measures to determine if implementation would require negotiations with the deputies’ union. Supervisor Mitchell expressed dissatisfaction with the delay, noting that the county has faced decades of reports, investigations, and lawsuits regarding deputy gangs without achieving meaningful action.
