Los Angeles County Extends Extreme Heat Warning Through Early August

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced that the National Weather Service has extended an Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory for several areas of the county from July 30 through August 5, 2026. The warning covers the Western, Eastern and central Antelope Valley, as well as the East San Gabriel Mountains, the Highway 14 corridor, and the northwest Los Angeles County mountain corridor. Temperatures are expected to remain dangerously high both day and night, increasing the risk of heat‑related illnesses such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke and heat cramps.

Officials urged residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity during the hottest hours, wear lightweight clothing and use sunscreen, and seek air‑conditioned spaces if homes become too hot. Special attention was recommended for vulnerable groups, including older adults, children, pregnant women, people with chronic conditions, outdoor workers and pets. The department also reminded the public that leaving children or pets in vehicles can quickly become fatal and advised calling 911 in such emergencies.
