Los Angeles County issues Red Flag Warning for Santa Ana winds

Public safety agencies in Los Angeles County have urged residents to prepare for strong Santa Ana winds and an elevated wildfire risk on Saturday. The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning effective from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, noting that low humidity and wind gusts of 30 to 45 mph could cause fires to spread rapidly.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) will implement its Red Flag Parking Restriction Program starting at 6 a.m. Saturday for at least 24 hours. This program prohibits parking on streets within high fire-hazard zones to ensure roadways remain clear for emergency vehicles and evacuations.

County officials and Mayor Karen Bass confirmed that personnel and resources, including ground and air units, are being strategically pre-positioned. Residents are advised to review evacuation plans, sign up for emergency alerts via NotifyLA, and prepare for potential power outages caused by wind or preventative utility shutoffs.
