Los Angeles County officials review DOJ voter eligibility correspondence
Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean C. Logan has issued a statement regarding correspondence received from the U.S. Department of Justice concerning voter eligibility and citizenship.
The correspondence, received on October 13, 2026, included a USB drive and a handwritten note containing a password. Logan stated that the office has not accessed the drive because doing so would violate data privacy and information security protocols, noting that the device is not considered a secure medium.
The Registrar-Recorder's office is currently reviewing the information in coordination with the California Secretary of State and the Attorney General. Logan emphasized that any removal of a voter from eligibility must be based on verifiable information rather than unconfirmed data matching, asserting that the office remains focused on a secure and transparent 2026 General Election.
