Los Angeles Dodgers place catcher Will Smith on injured list

Catcher Will Smith was placed on the Dodgers' 10‑day injured list on June 11, retroactive to June 8, because of neck inflammation caused by an inflamed disc. The injury had kept him out of the lineup since June 5, and he missed four consecutive games against the Pittsburgh Pirates and other opponents.

To fill the roster spot, the club called up journeyman catcher Chuckie Robinson from Triple‑A Oklahoma City and added him to the 40‑man roster after releasing utility man Tyler Fitzgerald. In Smith's absence, 25‑year‑old Dalton Rushing has taken over as the starting catcher, posting a .275 average with eight home runs and an OPS of .884 over 37 games.

Smith is eligible to return after a week, once the IL stint expires. The Dodgers expect Rushing to continue behind the plate while Robinson provides additional depth.
