Los Angeles Dodgers face sale rumors amid owner's legal scrutiny
Speculation regarding the potential sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers has intensified following reports that owner Mark Walter is facing federal investigations into his insurance entities. The scrutiny follows Walter’s recent sale of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and reports that he may also seek to divest from Chelsea FC.
Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten has dismissed the rumors, stating that the Lakers sale was a “one-of-a-kind” event unrelated to the Dodgers' business. However, analysts suggest that if a sale were to occur, it could impact the franchise's core leadership and talent. Specifically, concerns have been raised that President Andrew Friedman could depart, potentially triggering an opt-out clause in Shohei Ohtani’s contract.
Los Angeles Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong has expressed interest in acquiring the team should a sale become a reality. While no formal discussions have taken place, Soon-Shiong’s representatives stated they would be “very open to talking” if Walter decides to discuss the matter.
