Utah Utes defeat Idaho 66-14 in season opener

No. 21 Utah secured a dominant 66-14 victory over Idaho in their 2026 season opener at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The win marked the regular-season debut for Utah's new head coach, Morgan Scalley, who succeeds longtime coach Kyle Whittingham.

Quarterback Devon Dampier led the Utes' offense, throwing for 176 yards and three touchdowns. Wayshawn Parker contributed significantly with two touchdown receptions and a 21-yard touchdown run. The Utes' rushing attack was also highly effective, totaling 364 yards.

Idaho struggled to maintain momentum, managing only 95 total yards before halftime and committing two turnovers that Utah capitalized on. The Vandals entered the game following a loss to Cal Poly.
