Los Angeles driver charged with murder after fatal crash and news helicopter accident

A series of fatal incidents in Los Angeles has resulted in five deaths following a high-speed vehicle collision and a subsequent news helicopter crash.

Bailee Lynn Rios, 36, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, driving under the influence, and reckless driving. Authorities state Rios was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition while under the influence of drugs when she struck a Metro bus, killing passengers Gage Weida, 31, and Daniel Castillo, 46.

Approximately two hours after the initial collision, an NBC4/Telemundo 52 news helicopter crashed while covering the scene. The crash killed two people on board, pilot George Marciniw and reporter Eliana Moreno, as well as a bystander on the ground, Edy Gutierrez Mejia. Law enforcement recovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia from Rios's vehicle following the investigation.
