Los Angeles family welcomes rare 19.3-pound mixed triplets
A Los Angeles family has welcomed triplets with an unusual combined birth weight of 19.3 pounds. The three boys, named Elio, Elias, and Enzo, were born full-term at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center on August 18, which coincided with their father Marco Bernal’s birthday.
Medical professionals noted the rarity of the birth due to the babies being “mixed triplets.” In this case, Elio and Elias are identical twins who shared a placenta, while Enzo is a fraternal brother with a separate amniotic sac and placenta. While some reports suggested the weight might break a world record, the current Guinness World Record for the heaviest triplets stands at 22 pounds, 12.6 ounces.
The delivery was considered highly notable because all three infants were born full-term and each weighed more than six pounds, significantly exceeding the typical average weight for triplet births.
