Los Angeles Fashion District faces economic decline after immigration raids

One year after high-profile federal immigration raids in Los Angeles, the city’s Fashion District continues to experience significant economic and social disruption. The raids, which included a notable operation at Ambiance Apparel, involved armed federal officers arresting numerous employees and have left a lasting impact on the local community.

According to a study by the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute, businesses near nine immigration enforcement sites experienced a sharp decline in visitors, resulting in an estimated $3.16 million in losses in the two weeks following the start of the raids. In the Fashion District, foot traffic has dropped to levels seen during the pandemic, with many workers and residents expressing ongoing fear regarding enforcement actions.
