Los Angeles film shoot days fall 13% despite tax credits
FilmLA’s second‑quarter report shows the Greater Los Angeles area recorded 4,711 film and TV shoot days, a 13% drop from the same period last year and about 36% below the five‑year average. Feature‑film shoot days were down 20% and television production down 30% year‑over‑year. Tax‑incentivized productions are growing, accounting for 33% of feature‑film days and 28% of TV days, with Mayor Karen Bass noting the incentives are beginning to work. Reality‑TV shoot days fell 40%, and commercial shoots were down 22%. The report also noted 170 projects received California film and TV tax credits, including 41 new projects announced recently. While overall production declined, TV drama shoot days fell only 6.4% and rose 34.4% from the first quarter, with shows such as the “Baywatch” reboot and Hulu’s “Prison Break” reboot filming in the area.
