Los Angeles issues coastal weather alert for hurricane swells

Los Angeles officials have issued a coastal weather alert warning of moderate flooding, high surf, and dangerous rip currents. These conditions are expected to be driven by swells from Hurricanes Polo and Odalys.

The city’s Emergency Management Department anticipates that seawater may inundate beaches, walkways, and parking lots during high tides from Sunday night through Wednesday. Officials have also warned of increased risks of drowning due to strong rip currents, potential injuries from large breaking waves, and enhanced beach erosion.

Additionally, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has advised against swimming, surfing, or playing in ocean water at certain county beaches due to bacteria levels that exceed state health standards.
