Los Angeles Judge Revokes Order Allowing Nicolas Cage’s Ex‑Daughter‑in‑Law to Serve Him by Publication

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Huey P. Cotton rescinded a prior order that had permitted Hila Cage Coppola to serve actor Nicolas Cage with a cross‑complaint by publishing notice in a legal newspaper. With that order withdrawn, the judge dismissed as moot Cage’s separate motion to quash the summons.

Coppola, who filed the self‑represented lawsuit in February 2024 and amended it in April 2025, alleges defamation, malicious prosecution and intentional infliction of emotional distress against Cage, his son Weston Coppola, and Weston’s mother Christina Fulton. She claims the actor and Fulton interfered in her marriage, exerting financial and emotional control that sabotaged Weston’s medical treatment and contributed to the breakdown of their relationship. The complaint also references alleged false statements circulated on social media about drug use and inappropriate behavior.

The legal dispute remains ongoing, with both parties filing motions and counter‑claims related to service of process and alleged media smear campaigns.
