Los Angeles Lakers aim for more fluid offense this season
Austin Reaves has indicated that the Los Angeles Lakers will implement a more fluid and versatile offensive system this season. Following significant roster changes, the team aims to move away from a heavy reliance on the pick-and-roll and individual star creation, focusing instead on ball movement and forcing defensive rotations.
With Luka Doncic and Reaves serving as primary creators, the addition of players such as Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Ziaire Williams, and Matisse Thybulle is expected to provide more perimeter options and athleticism. This shift is intended to create a more mobile offense capable of changing tempo between possessions.
During training camp, Reaves also highlighted the high level of defensive competition within the team. He noted that the athleticism and disruptive defensive skills of the Lakers' wings—including Matisse Thybulle, Adou Thiero, and Jarred Vanderbilt—have provided a rigorous environment that challenges the team's stars during practice.
