Los Angeles Lakers cut Dalton Knecht after failed trade talks

The Los Angeles Lakers have waived Dalton Knecht as part of a roster reduction to 15 players. The decision follows unsuccessful attempts by the team to facilitate a trade for Milwaukee Bucks center Jericho Sims.

Reports indicate that the Lakers and Bucks engaged in discussions involving a swap of Knecht for Sims. However, the deal collapsed because Milwaukee requested two future second-round picks, while Los Angeles was only willing to part with one.

Knecht, a former standout at Tennessee, showed early promise during his rookie season, including a 37-point performance against Utah. However, his playing time declined significantly following a canceled trade involving Mark Williams, averaging just 10.2 minutes and 4.2 points per game last season before his release. Former NBA champion Metta Sandiford-Artest expressed support for the young player, suggesting Knecht possesses All-Star potential and criticizing the Lakers for failing to sufficiently develop him.
