Los Angeles Lakers face uncertain outlook after LeBron James departure

The Los Angeles Lakers have undergone significant roster changes following the departure of LeBron James, who opted out of the final year of his contract. The team secured a sign-and-trade deal for center Walker Kessler worth $130 million and signed Austin Reaves to a four-year, $180 million extension.

Despite adding players such as Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, and Kevon Looney, and being led by star Luka Doncic, a rival Western Conference coach predicts an underwhelming 2026-27 season. The coach suggested the Lakers may regress to a 46- or 47-win team due to deficiencies in size and rebounding, noting that the roster places excessive pressure on Kessler.
