Los Angeles Lakers find encouragement in uneven preseason play

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick and star guard Luka Doncic expressed encouragement regarding the team’s preseason performance despite inconsistent results. The team experienced contrasting outcomes in recent exhibitions, following a strong showing against the Sacramento Kings and a difficult loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Variations in player availability significantly impacted the team's composition during these games. Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Walker Kessler, Ziaire Williams, Matisse Thybulle, and Collin Sexton were among those who did not play against the Warriors.

Redick noted that the preseason provides valuable opportunities to build on positive developments. Observers highlighted improvements in defensive intensity, specifically through full-court pressure and increased physicality, as well as offensive adjustments where Doncic is beginning to utilize teammates' screens more effectively while starting possessions without the ball.
