Los Angeles Lakers hire Derrin Horton as new arena announcer

The Los Angeles Lakers have hired former KTLA sports anchor Derrin Horton as the team’s new public address announcer. Horton succeeds Lawrence Tanter, who held the position for 43 seasons before his passing.

Horton, a seven-time Emmy Award winner with 35 years of broadcasting experience, is scheduled to make his debut on October 8 during a preseason game against the Sacramento Kings at Crypto.com Arena. His background includes sports reporting, play-by-play work, and voice work for NFL Films.

Commenting on the responsibility of following an iconic figure, Horton stated, “There’s no way you can fill his shoes,” adding that his goal is to be “informative and entertaining and be a part of Showtime.”
