Los Angeles Lakers hire Eric Amsler as assistant general manager

The Los Angeles Lakers have hired Eric Amsler, a veteran executive from the Miami Heat, as an assistant general manager. Amsler, who spent over two decades with the Heat organization in various scouting and personnel roles, will focus on professional and draft scouting as well as player development.

This move is part of a broader front-office restructuring led by general manager Rob Pelinka. Amsler joins Rohan Ramadas, who was hired in May to focus on strategy, analytics, and the salary cap. The expansion of the basketball operations department comes as the franchise transitions ownership from Mark Walter to a group led by Josh Kushner and Bob Iger.

On the court, the Lakers are entering a new era centered around superstar Luka Doncic. Following a recent offseason minicamp in Slovenia, teammates including Kevon Looney and Bronny James praised Doncic’s leadership and efforts to build team chemistry. While some analysts, such as former Laker Danny Green, have expressed concerns regarding the team's youth and playoff experience, others like Robert Horry have highlighted the potential impact of new center Walker Kessler.
